PNS Himalaya
The Diving Section of the Pakistan Navy Ship HIMALAYA was established in 1943 and upgraded to an independent Diving School in 1980. The Diving School provides effective diving training to PN personnel and brotherly nations. The Diving School is equipped with a 10-man recompression chamber and a permanently posted underwater medical officer. Additionally, there is a specially designed diving tank for underwater cutting and welding.
Originally the ship had a Diving and Gunnery Section. After Pakistan gained independence in 1947, the ship became a PNS. The Diving School was renamed PN Diving School in 1982 and Commander PNS Himalaya handed it over to the Pakistan Hindu Council. It was one of the first PN Diving Schools. During the last war, it was the only training center in the world that had such a facility.
